Do section-wise analysis of every mock from the result sheet

Steps
1. Design the paper with section boundaries
If your mock has sections (say Q1–20 Mental Ability, Q21–40 Maths), keep the block structure clean — section-wise analysis starts with the paper layout, not the spreadsheet.
2. Download the per-question Excel export
After processing, download the Excel result that carries per-question response data, not just the total score.
3. Build section subtotal columns
In a copy of the sheet, add one column per section with a SUM over that section's question range — e.g. Mental Ability = sum of Q1–20 marks for each student row.
4. Read the three signals and plan the week
Sort by each section column — the lowest-average section is next week's teaching priority; the highest-variance section is where toppers are leaking marks.
A total score tells you who topped. A section-wise breakdown tells you what to teach next — and that is the analysis that actually moves a batch's scores. CheckOMR (By Navodaya Study) gives you the raw per-student data in the Excel export; this tutorial turns it into section intelligence with basic spreadsheet skills.
Why section analysis beats total-score review
Two students scored 60/100. One is weak across the board; the other lost everything in one section. The total score hides that difference — the section columns reveal it. Over a test series, section trends are the single most actionable signal a coaching institute has: they tell you what to teach, not just who to praise.
Before you start
- A paper designed in clean section blocks (Q1–20 section A, Q21–40 section B...). If your paper interleaves sections, section analysis gets noisy — worth fixing at the paper-design stage.
- The Excel result from a completed batch (see export results).
Steps
1. Design the paper with section boundaries
Write the section map on the paper itself — students and teachers both benefit. A clean block layout (Q1–20, Q21–40) is what makes everything downstream easy.
2. Download the per-question Excel export
After the batch processes, download the Excel result. If your sheet design includes section markers, the export carries what you need to split by block.
3. Build section subtotal columns
Work on a copy of the sheet. For each section, add a column that sums that block's marks for every student row — e.g. =SUM(D2:U2) for a 20-question section in columns D through U. Repeat per section. Freeze the name column so sorting keeps rows intact.
4. Read the three signals and plan the week
- Lowest average section — next week's teaching priority. Not "the class is weak" but "Maths Q31–40 averages 38%".
- Highest variance section — toppers leaking marks here are your one-to-one conversations.
- Week-over-week section trend — after three tests, paste each week's columns into the master workbook (progress tracking) and watch whether last week's fix moved the number.
The analysis loop closes when the next mock's section columns prove whether last week's intervention worked. That loop — teach, test, read the section columns, adjust — is worth more than any lecture plan built on gut feeling.
