Each pre-printed sheet includes a unique barcode registered in CheckOMR. When a sheet is scanned, the barcode is logged. Re-scans within a cooldown window are flagged to protect exam integrity.

This article explains what the barcode actually does at CheckOMR (By Navodaya Study), why it exists, and what it means for the trustworthiness of your results.

Why OMR checking needs protection at all

When evaluation happens on paper piles, two risks never go away: the same sheet getting checked twice (and counted as two students), and extra or copied sheets slipping into the pile. In a large mock test with hundreds of sheets across multiple booklet codes, no manual system can verify that every result corresponds to one real, physical sheet.

The barcode closes that gap. It gives every sheet an identity the system can verify — independent of what is written on the page.

What the barcode is

Every pre-printed CheckOMR sheet — delivered through the Complete OMR Bundle of professionally printed sheets — carries a unique barcode printed on the page. Unique means exactly that: no two sheets in your batch share one, and no barcode repeats across batches.

Before your exam, each barcode is registered in CheckOMR. The system now knows the exact population of genuine sheets for that exam.

What happens at scan time

  1. The scan is read. The pipeline reads the barcode from the scanned page along with the bubbles and handwritten fields.
  2. The scan is logged. The barcode is recorded — which sheet was scanned, and when.
  3. Duplicates are flagged. If the same barcode appears again within the cooldown window, the re-scan is flagged instead of being silently processed as a new sheet.

So a sheet that is scanned twice — or a photocopy made from it — cannot quietly become two scored results. The system sees one barcode trying to score twice and raises it for your review.

What this protects in practice

  • One sheet, one result. Double-counted sheets stop inflating your totals and averages.
  • Photocopies don't score. A copied page carries the original's barcode, so it is caught as a duplicate instead of entering the result as a new student.
  • Auditable batches. Because every scan is logged with its barcode and time, batch history is a verifiable trail — useful when a parent or coordinator asks how a score was produced.
  • Exam integrity at scale. All of this runs automatically inside the same pipeline that does the scoring — no extra step for your staff.

Getting barcoded sheets

Two ways to bring CheckOMR sheets into your exam room:

  • Complete OMR Bundle — professionally pre-printed sheets delivered to you, each with its unique barcode already registered for checking. You pay only for the printing; the checking platform is free.
  • Printing yourself — download the working OMR sheet from app.checkomr.com and print it for practice tests. Follow the blank sheet tutorial so alignment markers and bubbles print correctly.

Trust, built into the page

OMR checking software can only be trusted if the inputs cannot be faked cheaply. The unique barcode plus scan logging plus cooldown flagging means every result in your Excel export traces back to one physical sheet, scanned once, within the rules. That is what makes CheckOMR results safe to publish, share with parents, and act on.
