Check OMR sheets without a scanner machine

For years, automated OMR checking came bundled with a shopping list: an ADF scanner machine, a computer to run licensed software, and someone trained to operate both. That hardware wall kept automation out of reach for most coaching institutes and schools running regular mock tests.
CheckOMR removes the wall entirely. OMR sheets scanned with a mobile app get 100% accurate results — no scanner machine, no computer.
The old way vs the CheckOMR way
| Traditional setup | CheckOMR | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | ADF scanner machine | A phone with any scan-to-PDF app |
| Software | Licensed OMR software on a PC | Cloud platform, works in a browser |
| Where results run | That one computer | Cloud processing — PC or phone, same accuracy |
| Who can operate it | Trained operator | Any staff member or teacher |
The point is not that scanners stopped working — if you own an ADF scanner, its output uploads the same way. The point is that it is no longer required.
Why a phone photo can be trusted
A phone scan is not treated as a guess. Every CheckOMR sheet carries printed alignment markers (ArUco markers), and before anything is read, the pipeline measures each page's exact position, scale and rotation from those markers. The bubbles and handwritten fields are then read from the corrected geometry — which is why mobile-scanned PDFs are evaluated with the same reliability as flatbed scans.
The 5-step mobile workflow
- Scan — open a scan-to-PDF app (Adobe Scan, for example) and scan the filled sheets one after another into a single PDF.
- Upload — open CheckOMR in your phone's browser, sign in, create a new batch and upload the PDF (or several PDFs together).
- Attach the answer key — choose or create the key for your booklet codes (Set A, B, C, D).
- Process — tap Process. Hundreds of sheets are checked in under 2 minutes, with live status tracking.
- Download — get the Excel/CSV result sheet and the marked PDFs with colour-coded right/wrong marks.
Scanning tips for a clean batch
- Flat surface, full page. Place the sheet flat; keep all four corners inside the frame.
- Good light, no shadow. Avoid glare from tube lights and your own shadow falling on the bubbles.
- One sheet per page. Don't fold, fold-crease or clip corners — the markers must stay visible.
- Hold steady. A skewed or blurred photo wastes a sheet's re-scan later.
- Check the PDF once before uploading: every page complete, right side up, nothing cropped.
If a sheet still fails processing, the live status shows it — re-scan that physical sheet and upload it again.
What this changes for your institute
The exam-hall workflow now fits in a teacher's pocket: collect sheets, scan them in the staff room, upload from a phone, and the rank list is ready before the next period starts. No scanner budget, no computer lab booking, no queue — just upload your first batch and see it yourself.
